Which tandem size is right for you?
Tandem sizing is simple with three frame sizes in each model and a
broad array of stem options.
Use the following charts for quick reference.

- Tandem frame structure makes it ideal to put the taller rider up front
in the captain's position, while the smaller rider almost always is the
best choice for the rear (stoker) position.
- Co-Motion tandem sizing falls between the fitting of road-style
and MTB singles. Our tandem frames are made "long and low." This allows
for more stand-over clearance for the captain as well as a lighter and
more graceful frame.
- Select the tandem size which best fits the captain, and then consider
the stoker's fit on that size frame. Stokers don't need stand-over
clearance to achieve a comfortable position. Remember that when the tandem
comes to a stop, it's the captain's duty to keep the bike upright. Inseam
range for the stokers on Softride beam tandems is less than
on rigid frames. Please contact us for assistance if the stoker seems to
be at the edge of the size range.
- Notice that there's a lot of overlap on the sizing chart. We suggest
looking very carefully at one of the most overlooked aspects of bicycle
fit:
- Top tube length. For comparison, check the top tube length from your
single bike or existing tandem. A good cross-reference is to measure reach
from your seatpost to the handlebar and determine which frame and stem
combination will match (see our frame specifications for each bike for the
top tube lengths). To fine-tune your fit, we have nine choices of
captain's stems and three stoker stem choices, including our adjustable
stoker stem.
- Suspension seatposts: Deduct 2.5" (64mm) from the low end of the
inseam range to allow room for the Rockshox seatpost. Other brands may
require more room.
